A spate of resort developments on St Lucia has made this high, green island one of the Caribbean's fashionable package-tour destinations, but it's still a long way from being sanitized and overdeveloped. Bananas are still bigger business than tourism in this archetypal island paradise.
The western shores of St Lucia are a mighty fine place to be from February to April when the rain eases off. At this time you can expect daily highs around the 84°F mark with conditions getting only slightly hotter but much wetter the rest of the year.

CASTRIES Tours, Travel and Activities
One of the major tourist areas in St. Lucia, Castries is a port of call for cruise ships. The greatest concentration of hotels, resorts, and restaurants are near Castries and the island's other main towns, Gros Islet, Soufrière, and Rodney Bay. The city maintains three tourist offices, including one in the airport.
Castries has a few landmarks such as the 1890s Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, the Derek Walcott Square (named after the island's Nobel Prize-winning poet), the Government House, and Fort Charlotte, at the top of Morne Fortune (an 845-foot hill).
One of the major draws for tourists to St. Lucia is its beaches, and there are several in or very near Castries. Malabar Beach, Choc Beach, and La Toc Beach are all within easy reach.

SUGGESTED ITINERARIES: ST LUCIA
Marigot Bay is a lovely sheltered bay that's backed by green hillsides and sports a little palm-fringed beach. The inner harbor is so long and deep that an entire British fleet is said to have once escaped French warships by ducking inside and covering their masts with coconut fronds.
South of Soufriere at Malgretout is a quiet, undeveloped beach and mineral waterfall. Not only does this unfrequented waterfall have a beautiful Eden-like setting, but visitors are allowed to shower in its warm volcanic waters - which you cannot do at the more touristy waterfall at Diamond Botanical Gardens.
